Artist Statement
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, when the steel mills were the pride of the city and nobody thought smog was bad for you. I attended Smith College where I studied art with Leonard Baskin who changed my life. After a brief flirtation with advertising in New York City I married, had two children and got two Masters Degrees. I became a high school history teacher in the suburbs. I also taught in New York City, California and Poland. But I have always painted even when job and child care were most stressful – especially then! I taught for thirty years but have painted all my life. In the summer I paint country fauna and flora in New Hampshire; in the winter I paint city architecture, still lifes, portraits and grandiose biblical and historical scenes. I always paint.
